This tutorial is aimed at helping you to ensure that your storage files (or other modified files) won't be overwritten by other mods.
The Basics About SCS Files:
SCS files are simply uncompressed ZIP files (compression rate "store"). When you change any containing file, you have to remain the original folder structure and save/pack them with the compression set to "store"!
On startup Haulin reads the "base.scs" and the "patch.scs" first and then all files inside the folder "Documents and Settings\NAME\My Documents\18 WoS Haulin\mod" in alphabetical order. If a specific file (e.g. "truck_storage.sii") is used in several SCS files, the last loaded version wins; it overwrites all previous versions.
Tools & Skills:
Creating your own SCS file:
Open the folder "Documents and Settings\NAME\My Documents\18 WoS Haulin" and create a new subfolder (e.g. "My Storages"). Open that folder and create the folder "vehicle", inside that create the folder "truck" and open this one. You should be in a folder named "Documents and Settings\NAME\My Documents\18 WoS Haulin\My Storages\vehicle\truck". Now open the "base.scs" (or the SCS file which contains your current truck_storage.sii and traffic_storage.sii) and extract these two files into your newly created folder "truck".
After you've done the required modification on the storage files, open the folder "My Storages". Compress the folder "vehicle" with winrar using "ZIP" as method and the compression set to "Store". And now the trick: Rename this files to "xtra-storages.scs" and move it into your "mod" folder. The name beginning with "x" ("z" even would be better) ensures that this SCS file is read beyond all other mod files and your modifications won't get lost.
If you want to make further changes, just edit the files or add new files (remaining the folder structure) and create your SCS file again.
Another advantage of consolidating the files modified by yourself in one SCS file is that you have all modifications in one place; you don't have to search through all SCS files. And you can ignore the storage files already existing in other mods

Tools & Skills:
- Notepad ++ (is a great editor and can take the place of notepad from MS; with the hex plugin you have a all in one editor for the game); if you use MS notpad, you have to save the files as "Other Document" instead of "txt"!
- WinRAR to unpack / pack the SCS files (you can't open SCS files with the Windows Explorer and drop files in - this method always uses a compression rate!)
- Some knowledge of building folder trees
